Galveston Family and Divorce Law Firm
Family Law Specialist in Galveston
Legal issues that affect families can often be difficult to resolve. In these cases, family members may be uncertain about how different laws apply to them, and they may worry that the decisions made in court will affect their relationships, their finances, and multiple other aspects of their lives. For those who do not have experience with the legal system, entering the courtroom can be a very intimidating experience, and filing or responding to legal documents and addressing other legal issues can be stressful and overwhelming. To ensure that they will be able to approach these matters correctly, those who are involved in family law cases will want to work with a qualified and experienced attorney.
At the law office of Daniel R. Bacalis, P.C., we work to help our clients address family-related legal issues properly. Attorney Daniel Bacalis has been working in the field of family law since 1983, and he believes in providing every client with personal attention and communicating with them to make sure they understand the status of their case at all times and the steps they can take to achieve the best possible outcome to their situation. He is certified as a family law specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and he is dedicated to helping families resolve legal issues successfully.
What Is a Board Certified Family Law Specialist?
The Texas Board of Legal Specialization recognizes attorneys who have strong knowledge and extensive experience in specific areas. To be board certified in family law, a lawyer will need to meet the following qualifications:
- They must have practiced law on a full-time basis for at least five years while being an active member of the State Bar of Texas.
- They must have at least three years of experience representing clients in family law cases while dedicating a minimum of 35 percent of their practice to these matters each year.
- They must have participated in a certain number of court appearances, trials, or appeals, as well as representation of clients in cases where mediation is used to resolve disputes.
- They must receive references from judges and other attorneys in their local area.
- They must complete at least 60 hours of continuing legal education in areas related to family law.
- They must pass a comprehensive six-hour exam to demonstrate their proficiency in family law.
Only a small percentage of attorneys receive board certification. Those who are board certified have demonstrated that they have extensive knowledge of the legal issues that family members may need to address, as well as experience that shows that they can successfully represent clients in family law cases.
